Environmental Epidemiologist | Health Geographer | Spatial Lifecourse Epidemiology
I am an Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), where I lead the Geospatial and Environmental Health programme, the Generation Victoria (GenV) Environmental Stream, and the MCRI Climate Change and Health Community of Practice.
My research programme sits at the intersection of precision geospatial methods, environmental exposures, and health service access, generating evidence for equitable service planning and population health across the lifecourse.
Research Programme
1. Health Service Access and Urban Environments
I develop precision geospatial methods to understand how populations access health services and how the environments they move through shape health outcomes, and where populations face the greatest barriers to care, providing a basis for service location, outreach and demand planning.
2. Climate, Environment and Health
Climate change is an escalating threat to population health and health system sustainability. My programme examines how environmental hazards (urban heat, air pollution, extreme weather) affect physical and mental health across the lifecourse, with direct implications for health service demand, and urban and health policy and planning.
3. Geospatial Innovation and Precision Exposure Measurement
Translating environmental evidence into actionable insights requires greater precision than conventional area-level methods allow. My third pillar develops innovative geospatial methods and platforms, integrating GPS tracking, wearable sensors, static monitors and high spatiotemporal resolution exposure modelling. This supports advanced causal inference and public health and urban planning.
